Tura, April 20: Following a complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills (WGH), Jagdish Chelani, by residents of the Dakopgre locality in Tura regarding a resident setting up a borewell within, a meeting was held last week to decide on the future course of action.
Residents of the area had objected to the borewell that was set up over fears that the same would cause a water crisis in the community as well the fact that permission was only given by a few without consultation with the many. It discussed the impact that boring would have on the spring chamber used by most people from the community.
The meeting was held last week and included the Headman of Dakopgre, jury members of the development committee and residents to discuss the matter at the community hall in the locality.
Following the discussions, it was unanimously decided by voice to not allow and totally stop the issuance of any kind of permit to individuals or groups for drilling any type of borewell in future.
Furthermore, the meeting declared that in the Dakopgre locality, permission for such drilling activity for borewell in present or in near future will be allowed to any individuals whatsoever. No such permits would be issued.
