SHILLONG, April 21: More than 2,000 community-managed schools in Meghalaya have given their No Objection Certificate (NOC) for transferring the management of schools from the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) to the State Education department.
Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools Association (MSSASA) president, Aristotle C Rymbai, informed that out of around 3,000 schools, more than 2,000 have already consented to the transfer. Additionally, 23 private and minority-run institutions have also given their approval.
As several schools have sought further clarification, the state government will issue official letters addressing the matter to those institutions that are yet to provide their consent.
Meanwhile, Director of School Education and Literacy, Banteilang J. Kharshandi, announced that the deadline for submission of NOCs has been extended to May 15, considering the number of queries and doubts raised by community-managed SSA schools.
The rationalisation of schools was also discussed during the meeting, with instructions issued to Sub-Divisional School Education Officers (SDSEOs) and District School Education Officers (DSEOs) to examine the matter thoroughly.
On the categorisation of schools and teachers across the state, Kharshandi added that the Centre aims to streamline the system through consultations with all relevant stakeholders.
