SHILLONG, April 21: Connectivity between Assam and Meghalaya is set to improve significantly as work on the 40 km-long Umsning-Jagi road is expected to commence soon.
Informing this here on Monday, Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar said that as many as 66 villages have given their No Objection Certificate (NOC) and expressed willingness to cooperate for the early completion of the road project.
It is pertinent to note that the road project is being funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
According to Marngar, ADB officials are scheduled to visit the area later this month to conduct a detailed survey. The construction work is expected to begin by next year.
Describing the project as a major boon for the people of the state, Pyngrope said the new road will significantly ease connectivity for multiple communities.
The road will pass through hilly and rolling terrains, linking several settlements including Nongiri, Rilong, Sohpdok, Sohliya, Umtangngi, Mawdiengngan, Umlaiteng, Umlatar, Mawhati, Umsohlait, Sonidan, Mawlaho, among others.
As part of the project, a total of seven minor bridges will also be constructed to enhance accessibility and infrastructure resilience along the route.
