SHILLONG, April 24: The state government has completed the construction of designated spaces for the relocation of hawkers from the Police Bazar area.
According to sources, around 200 such spaces have been created at the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) parking lot, located opposite the State Bank of India’s main branch.
Similar spaces were also built at the base of the MUDA parking lot. However, the hawkers requested that these facilities be provided on the upper level of the MUDA parking lot, to which the government has agreed.
The initial plan is to relocate approximately 200 hawkers from Police Bazar to facilitate the beautification of the area.
In the subsequent phase, the government also plans to relocate hawkers operating in other parts of the city.
