SHILLONG, April 29: NEIGRIHMS is aiming to commission its much-awaited and long-delayed Critical Care Block by September or October this year.
Sharing this update, NEIGRIHMS Director Dr Nalin Mehta stated that the project is being implemented under the PM-ABHIM scheme.
The upcoming facility will significantly enhance the institute’s capacity to treat a higher number of patients from both within Meghalaya and outside. The Critical Care Block will be dedicated to managing infectious diseases like COVID-19 and other contagions, without disrupting the hospital’s routine services.
Though delayed due to various factors, work on the project has now gained momentum. The block is being constructed using a prefabricated steel structure at an estimated cost of Rs 120 crore. Once completed, it is expected to provide crucial support in the state’s battle against infectious diseases.
The facility will include 150 beds, four operation theatres, 50 ICU beds, 25 high-dependency unit (HDU) beds, isolation wards, radiology units, and other essential infrastructure.
