SHILLONG, May 10: The ICAR-KVK, West Garo Hills, on Friday organised a training programme on ‘Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Summer Vegetables’-cum-input distribution under the NICRA Project at Marapara under Dalu Block.
Led by Dr Joyshree Mahanta, CTO (Plant Pathology), along with YP-II Dr Sanjay Chetri, the programme witnessed active participation from 47 farmers.
The training focused on eco-friendly methods for managing pests and diseases in summer vegetables, promoting the use of beneficial microorganisms like Trichoderma and Pseudomonas for biological control and plant growth promotion. Neem oil was also introduced as an effective botanical pesticide against a broad spectrum of insect pests.
To further enhance climate resilience and boost income generation, quality seeds of summer vegetables such as long yard bean, okra, bottle gourd, amaranthus, brinjal, chilli and ridge gourd were distributed among the participants.
