NONGPOH, May 13: A commercial vehicle occupied by a couple overturned after the woman reportedly yanked the steering wheel abruptly causing the car to veer off course and crash into the roadside railing along National Highway 6 at Mawdiangum in Ri-Bhoi, late Tuesday evening.
Locals who witnessed the accident rushed to the scene and managed to pull the couple — both of whom sustained minor injuries — out of the wreckage. Surprisingly, immediately after being rescued, the couple fled the scene.
Police from Nongpoh Police Station arrived at the crash site shortly after and have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The vehicle (ML04D0396) was badly damaged in the crash.
