SHILLONG, May 14: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday hailed the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF) and Chief Minister’s Special Fund (CMSF) as among the best schemes under the government, highlighting their flexibility and impact on community welfare and development initiatives across Meghalaya.
“The scheme is flexible, transparent, and enables various development interventions across the state,” Sangma said, while addressing a programme at Don Bosco Sunny Side, Shillong.
He explained that under both schemes, the Chief Minister’s Office and Secretariat actively monitor the implementation of development and welfare activities. The funds, disbursed to community organisations, NGOs, and social groups, have made a far-reaching impact on society. “I am very proud to inform you that if you ask me — after looking at all the schemes in the Government of Meghalaya — I would rate this as one of the best,” the Chief Minister added.
He elaborated that the funds cater to a wide range of projects — from basic amenities to infrastructure development — ensuring that specific needs of various communities are met efficiently.
During the event, Sangma handed over PA systems, solar panels, and chairs to the Dorbar Shnong Sawmer of Upper Shillong. “This is my locality — I feel at home — so it is even more special for me to be here with all of you today,” he said.
He noted that the scheme is implemented in record time, citing instances where funds were sanctioned within just two hours. “The scheme allows for direct transfer of money to the beneficiaries,” he added.
An amount of Rs 20.79 lakh was sanctioned for the Dorbar, which covered the installation of 120 solar lights, provision of 600 plastic chairs, and the setup of a public announcement system. “Let me assure you that this is not the end. I will be very, very happy to continue supporting the Dorbar, its members, and the public at large in future development projects as well,” he stated.
He also assured that local community concerns would be addressed, including the commencement of a water tank project in the area.
Additionally, Sangma announced that infrastructure and musical equipment would be provided to the local youth organisation. “Music is something I want to promote… our youth don’t get the support they need,” he added.
