MAWKYRWAT, May 14: The Federation of Khasi-Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP), South West Khasi Hills, on Wednesday reopened the Umjarain Sub-Centre after receiving assurance from the Health department that Shidalin Lyngkhoi, the landowner of the sub-centre, will be appointed as a permanent staff member.
President of FKJGP South West Khasi Hills, Kenes Nonglait, said that the centre has been reopened for public use following a productive meeting with officials from the Health department, including Joint Director Dr War and District Medical & Health Officer Dr FR Lartang.
“In the meeting, Directorate of Health Services and DMHO officials assured us that they will immediately appoint Shidalin Lyngkhoi as a permanent staff member, since she donated her land for the sub-centre back in 2010,” said Nonglait.
However, he added that the Federation will continue to monitor the issue closely. The FKJGP had shut down the Sub-Centre on May 10, after the department failed to respond to a two-week ultimatum demanding Lyngkhoi’s appointment.
