Shillong, May 19: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma visited Iewduh market on a rainy Monday to inspect the oldest and busiest market’s conditions and interact with shopkeepers.

Accompanied by Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong, Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh, and his entire entourage from various departments, the CM walked through the market, noting drainage problems and waterlogging.

He interacted with shopkeepers who urged the government to improve the drainage system, clean clogged drains regularly, and provide better waste management to prevent flooding during monsoons.

The CM also assured that these concerns will be addressed as in the first phase the stoned footpaths were made. “Rs 6 crore was sanctioned in the first phase, Rs 15 crore in the second, for the drainage system and so on and more work will be taken up in the third,” he said.
