SHILLONG, May 19: A total of 119 aspiring candidates have signed up for the East Khasi Hills district administration’s coaching programme for army recruitment under the Centre’s Agnipath Scheme.
The 45-day pre-recruitment coaching-cum-training programme for Agniveer (Indian Army) aspirants was launched on Monday at KJP Synod Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Mawkhar. This programme is designed to prepare candidates for the Common Entrance Exam, scheduled for late June or the first week of July by providing them with academic guidance and physical training.
Addressing the aspiring candidates, Commissioner and Secretary Cyril Diengdoh emphasised the importance of joining the Indian Army not just as a career path but also as a means for youth to become disciplined, respected, and honourable members of society.
He urged the participants to attend the sessions regularly for positive results in both the written exam and the physical fitness test.
Director of the Army Recruitment Office, Colonel Vinay Kumar, provided an overview of the Agniveer programme as a career option. He also shared key insights about the selection process, exam syllabus, recruitment procedures, and associated benefits.
Speaking on the occasion, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Rosetta M Kurbah said the free coaching and training initiative reflects the district administration’s systematic approach to equipping local youth with the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in the recruitment process. She encouraged the candidates to remain committed and diligent throughout the coaching programme.
It may be noted that candidates who pass the written exam will be eligible for an additional 30-day intensive physical training programme.
