AMPATI, May 19: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma has flagged concerns over reported leakage issues during an inspection of the under-construction International Football Stadium at Ampati in South West Garo Hills.
During the inspection, Songsak MLA Sangma held detailed discussions with officials from the Sports department and the Project Management Consultant overseeing the project to understand the challenges hindering its completion.
Expressing serious concern over reported leakage problems in the stadium’s structure, he also reviewed the seating arrangements, including the installation of seven VIP seats on the main gallery (first phase), and inspected the ongoing work under the second phase, where a major portion of the stadium remains unfinished.
Raising questions about the quality of construction, Sangma called for immediate corrective measures to ensure the stadium meets international standards.
Sports department officials, who were present at the site, assured that the issues would be resolved within the stipulated timeframe.
Sangma has, meanwhile, stressed the need for strict monitoring and accountability, particularly in high-investment infrastructure projects intended to promote sports development in the region.
