People asked to avoid travelling to Sohra because of landslides along 11th mile-Umtyngar road

Shillong, May 30: Additional Deputy Commissioner & CEO (DDMA) East Khasi Hills District on Friday issued an advisory advising public to avoid unnecessary travelling to Sohra.

As per the reports there are heavy landslides at and along 11th mile – Umtyngar road. The advisory stated that those who have to travel towards Sohra for unavoidable reasons are advised to take the diversion road adjacent to Mawklot village and proceed towards Shillong Peak-Pomlakrai-Laitlyngkot road.

In a separate advisory, Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Pynursla Civil Sub-Divisiopm said that the road stretch at chainage Kms 24+00-37+00 of the Shillong Dawki road in particular, and the entire stretch of the Shillong Dawki road in general, remains vulnerable to landslides owing to the incessant rainfall, public and commute are strongly cautioned to avoid unnecessary travel during the next few hours.
