SHILLONG, May 30: In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure, the National Health Mission (NHM) has approved a Rs 6.9 crore contract for the redesign, construction and equipping of key community health centres (CHCs) in Meghalaya to transform them into fully functional first referral units (FRUs).
The contract was sanctioned by the Mission Director on February 27, 2025, and awarded to M/s Sandor Medicaids Pvt. Ltd., headquartered at Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. The procurement was conducted through the Quality and Cost Based Selection (QCBS) method.
As part of this initiative, Riangdo CHC in West Khasi Hills district has been selected alongside Namdong CHC in West Jaintia Hills district and Patharkhmah CHC in Ri-Bhoi district for comprehensive upgrades.
The project is to be completed within six months from the date of the work order.
The contractor has been directed to commence work immediately, strictly adhering to the approved architectural designs and equipment specifications.
Expressing his satisfaction, MLA of Mawshynrut constituency, Methodios Dkhar, stated, “We are happy to know that we are moving towards another achievement in fulfilling the aspirations of our people. The upgradation of Riangdo CHC into a first referral unit will greatly benefit the region. It is encouraging to see that Riangdo CHC is one of the three CHCs in the state selected for this vital transformation.”
It may be mentioned that this development is part of the government’s ongoing mission to improve access to emergency and referral healthcare services, especially in rural and remote areas of Meghalaya.
