Meghalaya shines at 9th Open National Taekwondo C’ship

Shillong, May 31: In a historic achievement for the state, the Meghalaya Taekwondo Team bagged a record number of medals at the 9th Open National Taekwondo Championship held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha.
Led by Mr. Jadumani Singh, General Secretary of the Meghalaya Taekwondo Association (MTA), and Mr. Osmond D. Sangma, Vice President of the MTA, the contingent comprised 34 talented athletes who showcased outstanding skill and determination on the national stage.Meghalaya’s young martial artists returned with an impressive medal tally—24 Gold, 10 Silver, and 9 Bronze medals—marking the state’s best-ever performance in a national-level Taekwondo tournament organized by the Taekwondo Federation of India.This milestone achievement not only highlights the growing standard of martial arts in Meghalaya but also reflects the hard work of the athletes, coaches, and the MTA’s leadership in nurturing sporting talent. The result has sparked widespread pride among the local sports fraternity and is expected to further boost the popularity of Taekwondo across the state.
