District Level Inter-School Subroto Cup kicks off in Jowai

Jowai, June 2: Football fever gripped West Jaintia Hills on Monday as the District-Level Inter-School Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2025 kicked off in style, with ten fiercely contested matches held across two venues — Kiang Nangbah Stadium, Dongmihsngi, and Wahiajer Multi-Sports Complex.
Organised by the Office of the District Sports Officer, the day marked the beginning of the much-anticipated Under-17 (Boys) category, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying tournament featuring the region’s finest school football teams.
At the Kiang Nangbah Stadium, five matches showcased a fine blend of skill and determination. Sawlyngdoh Higher Secondary School, Mookaiaw edged past Jaintia H/S School, Jowai with a 2-1 win, while Little Flower H/S School, Ummulong cruised to a dominating 5-1 victory over Lumpyrtuh Secondary School, Mihmyntdu. Amwi H/S School, Thangbuli handed a 4-0 drubbing to Tome Memorial H/S School, Jowai, and H.K. Singh Memorial Secondary School, Jowai secured a 3-0 win over Khimusniang Presbyterian Secondary School. Marian Hills H/S School, Jowai, rounded off the day’s action with a close 2-1 win over Mihmyntdu Secondary School.
Over at the Wahiajer Multi Sports Complex, nail-biting drama unfolded. Albin Lamare Memorial Secondary School, Nangbah edged out KJP Synod Mihngi H/S School, Jowai in a penalty shootout (4-3), while Laishnong H/S School, Nongbareh, sealed a 3-2 win over Adventist H/S School, Khliehtyrshi. Govt.
Boys H/S School, Jowai defeated Ummulong Presbyterian H/S School, Jowai 3-1, and Kiang Nangbah H/S School, Jowai steamrolled On and On Secondary School, Ummulong with a thumping 7-0 scoreline. In another intense tie-breaker, Khasi Pnar Secondary School, Bakur held their nerve to beat Rising Hills Secondary School, Mootyrshiah, 5-4.
