SHILLONG, June 5: The court of B Khriam, Special Judge (POCSO), East Jaintia Hills, has sentenced one Boti Surong to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment for committing an offence under Section 6(1) of the POCSO Act along with fine of Rs 30,000. In default of payment, the convict will serve an additional two months of simple imprisonment.
Section 6(1) of the Act prescribes punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault.
The case was registered with Khliehriat Women Police Station and the investigation was entrusted to WP/Sub Inspector L Siangshai. The case was charge-sheeted on October 12, 2023.
The court has also ordered the convict to pay a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the minor survivor.
