SIJU, June 9: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) Siju Regional Unit has registered a complaint against what they called an unauthorised and unilateral decision taken by the Nokma of Siju Aratika Datra (Mouza No-V, Aking Nos. 1, 3 & 5) to hand over A’king land to the PWD (NH) and later to the Forest department, without any consultation or consent from the local community.
The complaint was submitted today, Jun 9 to the Deputy Commissioner of SGH.
“Such action is a serious misuse of position and goes against traditional practices and community rights. The A•king land belongs to the people collectively and no individual—including the Nokma—has the right to make decisions over such land for personal or external interest. This move is unacceptable and has caused deep concern among the public,” stated the GSU through their complaint.
The GSU has now sought the immediate cancellation of the land transfer agreement made by the Nokma and a thorough inquiry into the matter while adding that they would resort to protests if action was not taken.
