Ri-Bhoi Hosts Subroto Cup Football Tournament

Nongpoh, June 12: The selection trials for the upcoming 39th National Games have been announced for various districts across Meghalaya.
As per the official notification, the athletics trials for East and West Jaintia Hills will take place at Wahiajer Stadium on June 28 from 9 AM onwards.Similarly, athletes from East Khasi Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, South West Khasi Hills, and West Khasi Hills will undergo their trials at the SAI, STC Complex, NEHU on July 5, starting from 9 AM. The Garo Hills region—including East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, and West Garo Hills—will conduct its trials at Tura in July, with the exact date to be confirmed shortly.
Registrations for the trials must be done through online mode, and the last date for submission of entries is in June—no entries will be accepted beyond the deadline.
Only athletes born on or before December 31, 2009, will be eligible to participate.Events for men and women include: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10000m, long jump, high jump, triple jump, shot put, discus throw, and javelin throw. Each athlete is permitted to participate in a maximum of two events.
Meanwhile, in another major sporting event in Ri-Bhoi, the District Level Inter-School Subroto Cup Football Tournament 2025 kicked off on June 10 at various venues including Umdihar Football Ground, NSCA Mini Stadium, Pahamsyiem, and Chinchona Football Ground.
On June 11, in the Under-15 boys’ category, Nongjri Presbyterian Higher Secondary School defeated Don Bosco Higher Secondary School 6–1, Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School beat St. John Higher Secondary School 4–0, Ri Bhoi Presbyterian Higher Secondary School won 7–1 against Savio Secondary School, and Mawtneng U.P & Secondary School thrashed St. Anthony’s Secondary School 7–0.
In the Under-17 boys’ category, St. Paul Higher Secondary School outclassed Saiden Secondary School 4–0, Umpohwin Secondary School edged past Umsning Presbyterian Higher Secondary School in a tie-breaker (4–2), Nongjri Presbyterian Higher Secondary School registered a 5–0 win over Sunrise Secondary School, and Ri Bhoi Presbyterian Higher Secondary School cruised to a dominant 9–0 victory over Lai Phew Diengngan Secondary School.
The tournament continues with more fixtures lined up in the coming days as young talents from the district compete for top honours.
