SHILLONG, June 13: The Meghalaya Cabinet, in a meeting held on Friday, unanimously adopted a resolution to express deep appreciation for the efforts of all departments and personnel involved in handling the recent case of honeymoon homicide.
“The Cabinet met sometime back today. And at the start of the Cabinet meeting, we adopted a resolution to formally acknowledge with gratitude the role played by various agencies, government departments and especially the role played by the Police Department in handling the tragic case which occurred at Sohra,” Cabinet Minister and MDA spokesperson, Paul Lyngdoh, said.
He also referred to the contribution of the rescue teams, many of whom spent over two weeks navigating the difficult terrain of Sohra to support the investigation and recovery efforts.
“The Cabinet acknowledged with heartfelt gratitude the role of all stakeholders, especially those who were part of the rescue team, which trekked and stationed themselves at Sohra for the past 15 days or so,” Lyngdoh added.
The Cabinet also decided to extend formal recognition to the officers involved in cracking the case. “The Cabinet will also formally meet officers, like the DGP and her team from the East Khasi Hills Police, in order to formally pay our respect and acknowledge the role that they have played in cracking the case,” he said.
Lyngdoh mentioned that some acknowledgements had already been made. “As far as the rescue team is concerned, I had personally met them at Sohra day before yesterday, where we had also given them cash incentives of Rs 15,000 per volunteer, along with certificates,” he said.
It is pertinent to note that the Cabinet’s resolution stands as a significant gesture to honour the tireless work of those who ensured justice and dignity in the aftermath of the tragic incident.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet also observed a moment of mourning for the victims of the recent Air India crash in Ahmedabad.
“The Cabinet also condoled the loss of about 290 lives in the Air India crash at Ahmedabad. We pay our tribute to all those who lost their lives, and that includes passengers on board, as well as students of the medical college on which the aircraft had landed,” Lyngdoh said.
