SHILLONG, June 14: As part of teh World Blood Donor Day celebrations, the Military Hospital, Shillong, in collaboration with the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), organised a blood donation camp on Saturday to support healthcare services and raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation.
The event was inaugurated by Lt Gen Sanjay Malik, SM, GOC 101 Area, who led by example by donating blood.
During the programme, he lauded the initiative taken by the Military Hospital, Shillong, and described the same as a noble and impactful endeavour.
“The event witnessed overwhelming participation from serving soldiers and their families along with civilian staff of 101 Area, who came forward to donate blood and contribute to a noble cause. The collected blood will be utilised to help patients in need of transfusions, emergency care and surgeries,” a statement in this regard said.
It may be mentioned that the blood donation camp, conducted under the supervision of a qualified medical team, maintained strict adherence to safety protocols and hygienic practices. Donors also underwent preliminary health check-ups before donating blood.
“Through this initiative the Indian Army hopes to inspire others to recognise the importance of voluntary blood donation & become regular donors. This initiative not only bolsters critical medical preparedness but also sends a powerful reminder of the commitment of the Indian Army towards public welfare & their enduring legacy of service,” the statement said.
