SHILLONG, June 14: Students of Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) on Friday captivated the audience with soulful and high-energy performances during the 9th edition of ‘Ha Kylli ki Khriang’, the annual concert of the university’s Department of Music held at the Wahingdoh Community Hall.
According to a statement from the university here, the concert, the title of which translates to ‘Circle of Rhythms’, draws inspiration from the cyclical patterns of traditional Khasi dances, symbolising unity and harmony through music.
“This concert serves as a platform for students to exhibit their musical abilities through performances in various languages, dialects and genres. The repertoire includes original compositions, folk music, folk fusion and covers,” it said.
The event also doubled as an experiential learning opportunity, with the performances of the students evaluated by prominent musicians from Shillong, who offered valuable feedback to help refine both technical and interpretive skills.
“The concert was open to public and the audience was enthralled with music that got their body moved, nod and headbang to the musical display by students, inviting them to an evening where tradition meets innovation, with rhythms of the past to the present converging in harmony. It was truly a memorable and delightful way to conclude the week, enveloped in the grandeur of relaxing and beautiful music,” the MLCU said.
