Of marriage, murder & memes: Homicide case sparks meme fest
The chilling case of the recent honeymoon homicide in Sohra has not only become a talk of the town but of the entire country, and, in true internet fashion, it didn’t take long before meme-makers rolled up their sleeves.
As soon as the news broke that Raja Raghuvanshi was allegedly murdered by his wife Sonam during what was supposed to be their romantic post-wedding getaway, social media went into overdrive.
Amidst all the jokes, one meme from 2016 rose like a phoenix from the ashes. It was ‘Sonam Bewafa Hai’— inspired from the sentence “Sonam Gupta Bewafa” on a Rs 10 note that made round on the internet years ago.
Some netizens also took to social media to liken the case with Crime Patrol episodes.
Many memes also voiced concerns about crimes against men, with a touch of humour, of course. They made references on the 2025 cases of Bengaluru techie suicide case, Navy man’s alleged killing by wife and lover, et al.
Of course, amid the LOLs, a few wise netizens stressed the need for the establishment of National Commission for Men and other legislative safeguards to address challenges faced by men and ensure swift justice to the victims in such cases.
While the case remains under investigation, one thing is certain: the internet’s memory is long and meme muscles are surely strong!
