Nongjri Presbyterian school secure double win in Subroto Cup

Nongpoh, June 17: The Ri Bhoi District-Level Inter-School Subroto Cup Football Tournament concluded on Tuesday with thrilling finals held at the Umdihar village football ground, showcasing spirited competition among six participating schools from across the district.
In the U-17 girls’ category, Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School edged past Christian Higher Secondary School 1–0 in a tightly fought encounter to claim the title.
The U-17 boys’ final proved to be a dramatic affair, as Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School locked horns with Nehru Memorial Higher Secondary School. After a 1–1 stalemate at the end of regulation time, the match was decided through a tense penalty shootout that extended into multiple rounds of sudden death. Nongjri eventually sealed a nail-biting 17–16 victory to complete a memorable double.In the U-15 boys’ final, Mawtneng Upper Primary & Secondary School emerged champions with a 1–0 win over Mynken Christian Higher Secondary School.The closing ceremony was graced by K. Passah, Assistant Director at the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, who attended as the chief guest. Also present were Mawhati MLA Charles Syngkli, R.B. Shadap, President of the Ri Bhoi District Sports Association, and other dignitaries who commended the young players for their determination and sportsmanship.
With this triumph, Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School will go on to represent Ri Bhoi District at the state-level Subroto Cup in both the U-17 boys’ and girls’ categories, while Mawtneng Upper Primary & Secondary School will carry the district’s hopes in the U-15 boys’ division.
