SHILLONG, June 18: The Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF), through its working committee, has expressed deep sorrow over the recent aircraft crash in Ahmedabad, the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and the honeymoon homicide in Sohra.
SAFF secretary Noor Nongrum stated that these “gruesome and calibrated acts of hatred” reveal the disturbing intentions of individuals who threaten the fabric of societal harmony and the rule of law.
He lauded the people of Sohra, especially the local tour guides, along with the Meghalaya Police and the state government, for their diligent and tireless efforts in uncovering the truth behind the Sohra incident.
According to Nongrum, the response reflected the resilience and sincerity of the region, and the case should serve as a learning ground for strengthening rural tourism infrastructure, particularly in areas of safety, regulation and the training of guides and homestay operators.
He further cautioned against what he described as the “mindless, irresponsible and provocative maligning” of Meghalaya by sections of the media, calling such portrayals dangerously absurd and baseless.
Nongrum stressed that the culture, etiquette and values of the people of Meghalaya must be actively promoted across the country, especially during times when misinformation threatens to overshadow the truth.
