JOWAI, June 22: In a heartfelt gesture of community support, the Jaintia Women Awakening Movement (JWAM) has extended assistance to three families in distress across various villages in West Jaintia Hills. The families, residing in Sahsniang-B village, Mihmyntdu Wahchnong, and Khanduli, received essential food items and monetary aid from the organisation. The initiative was led by JWAM president R Shylla and secretary R Siangshai.
Among those helped was a family in Khanduli facing dire circumstances. The mother, who has been battling the effects of a stroke for two years, has been left to care for her four children after her husband abandoned the family. Her 12-year-old son is now the sole breadwinner, working daily to support them.
In Sahsniang, the organisation came to the aid of a family that lost all their belongings in a devastating house fire that razed their home.
Meanwhile, in Mihmyntdu Wahchnong, support was extended to a family of orphaned children living with their ailing father, who has been seriously ill and unable to work for the past seven years.
JWAM emphasized that their outreach is not an attempt to seek recognition, but to inspire others in the community to lend a helping hand. “We share this not for praise, but in the hope that those with kind hearts will come forward to help,” said Shylla.
The organisation has appealed to the public to support vulnerable families who are in urgent need of assistance.
