State’s MLAs attend two-day conference in Maharashtra

SHILLONG, June 23: A delegation from the state Assembly is participating in the two-day-long National Conference of the Estimates Committees of Parliament and State/UT Legislatures at the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in Mumbai. The conference will continue until Tuesday.
The delegation is led by Nongpoh MLA and Chairman of the Committee on Estimates, Mayralborn Syiem. It comprises members Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar (Mawkyrwat), Wailadmiki Shylla (Jowai), Miani D Shira (Ampati), and Arbinstone B Marak (Selsella).
The team is supported by Commissioner & Secretary Andrew Simons and other senior officials of the Assembly Secretariat.
The Conference was inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. This year’s theme is ‘Role of Estimates Committee in Effective Monitoring and Review of Budget Estimates for Ensuring Efficiency and Economy in Administration.’
Mayralborn Syiem actively contributed to the discussions, offering insights into Meghalaya’s approach to legislative scrutiny, budget monitoring, and promoting financial accountability. The participation underlines Meghalaya’s ongoing efforts to strengthen good governance through robust legislative oversight.
