DHAKA, June 25: Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-BD) has removed the state-appointed counsel for former prime minister Sheikh Hasina amid a media controversy over his previous demand for her execution.
The tribunal is running a trial against Hasina, whose 16-year Awami League regime was toppled last year in a student-led protest.
Aminul Gani Titu was relieved as state defense counsel for Hasina, a day after the tribunal appointed him to defend her.
Amir Hossain was appointed as the state defense counsel for Hasina and home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
Titu acknowledged making the demand in a Facebook post before Hasina’s ouster, but if allowed to continue, he would have done it professionally.
Hasina is now in India, while most of her party leaders are behind bars or on the run. (PTI)
