48th State FIDE Rating Chess Championship begins in city

Shillong, June 26:The 48th edition of the Meghalaya State FIDE Rating Chess Championship got underway today at the historic Khasi National Dorbar Hall.
Organised by the East Khasi Hills District Chess Association (EKHDCA) and sponsored by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, the prestigious tournament has drawn a total of 111 participants from across the state.
The championship, which serves as a selection platform, will determine the top four players who will go on to represent Meghalaya at the 62nd National Chess Championship slated to be held in Andhra Pradesh this August.
The opening ceremony was graced by Professor T. Kharbamon, who inaugurated the event in the presence of officials from the Meghalaya Chess Association and EKHDCA.
The tournament promises a thrilling display of talent as players battle not just for victory, but also for the honour of representing the state on the national stage.
