Shillong, June 29: The Meghalaya Yogasana Sports Association has announced that five selected trainees from across the state will participate in the National Level Coaches’ Training Program scheduled to be held at the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala, Punjab, from July 2 to 8, 2025.
The initiative is being fully sponsored by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, as part of its broader plan to build capacity in various sports disciplines ahead of the 39th National Games 2027.
The Meghalaya Yogasana Sports Association, which is affiliated with Yogasana Bharat and the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, stated that this training marks a significant step in the professional development of Yogasana in the state.
The program is designed to equip local coaches with advanced skills, techniques, and knowledge to further nurture talent at the grassroots level.
In a bid to continue strengthening the foundation of Yogasana as a competitive sport, the association has also outlined its future plans to organise training programs for judges, coaching camps for athletes, and trainers’ certification programs, all in alignment with the state’s “Team Preparation” strategy for the upcoming National Games.
This move not only provides a national platform for local talents but also highlights Meghalaya’s growing emphasis on wellness, fitness, and indigenous sports culture through structured and government-supported programs.
The participation of Meghalaya’s trainees in the national-level Yogasana coaches’ training marks a promising beginning for the state’s long-term vision in sports development.
As Meghalaya gears up for the 39th National Games in 2027, such initiatives will play a crucial role in building a strong, skilled, and competitive sporting ecosystem.
