SHILLONG, June 29: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has expressed satisfaction with the measures taken by various departments of the Council in line with the suggestions and recommendations of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India in its report for the year ending March 31, 2020.
“We are satisfied with the measures being taken after an in-depth discussion on the CAG report,” PAC chairman Titosstarwell Chyne said in the report, which was tabled during the recently concluded Summer Session of the Council.
It may be mentioned that the PAC was constituted during the budget session in March to study and examine the audit observations raised in the CAG report.
Chyne stated that the committee had met five times to deliberate on the audit report and admitted that the observations made by the audit appeared to be serious in nature and needed reconciliation.
He further informed that the committee had summoned and questioned officers of various departments regarding the observations made by the CAG.
The PAC chairman also acknowledged that the officers were cooperative and had clarified the observations, outlining the steps initiated for reconciliation.
He said the matter has been intimated to the Executive Committee along with the minutes and proceedings of each meeting for their information.
Earlier, Chyne had informed that the final recommendations were based on detailed deliberations held by the committee on the report. “These will guide the necessary steps to address the audit findings,” he said, noting that all PAC members actively participated and contributed their views during the initial meetings.
Chyne also confirmed that the committee conducted a comprehensive review of the audit report to determine an appropriate course of action.
Earlier, he acknowledged that the CAG had pointed out irregularities in the use of central grants and inconsistencies in the recruitment process for KHADC vacancies.
It is pertinent to note that the CAG had recommended the formation of the PAC to ensure effective follow-up on audit observations.
