EKH court convicts man in POCSO case

SHILLONG, June 30: The Court of Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills, has convicted one Teiboklang Wahlang of Mawngap under the POCSO Act, and sentenced him to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment while imposing a fine of Rs 50,000 for an offence punishable under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
According to a statement, the verdict, delivered by Special Judge (POCSO) MK Lyngdoh, also stated that in the event of non-payment of the fine, the convict would face an additional six months of imprisonment.
Further, Wahlang has been sentenced to two years of imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 for an offence punishable under Section 506 IPC (criminal intimidation). In case of default in payment of the fine, he will face an additional three months of imprisonment.
It may be mentioned that the case was investigated by WP/SI L. Kharjana of the District Executive Force, who is presently posted at the Women Police Station, East Khasi Hills, Shillong.
