Interstate drug trafficker held with heroin in EJH

SHILLONG, July 2: East Jaintia Hills Police on Wednesday seized a little over 160 grams of heroin during naka checking at Umtyra and arrested an interstate drug trafficker person in connection with the seizure.
According to police, the operation was conducted by the East Jaintia Hills District Executive Force at around 11 AM, during which a vehicle, bearing registration number ML-04B 9703, was intercepted. The driver was identified as Kabir Uddin Mazumder.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 14 soap boxes suspected to contain illegal contraband. A preliminary test conducted on the spot confirmed that the substance was heroin. The total net weight of the seized heroin was recorded at 160.36 grams.
The driver, Kabir Uddin Mazumder, was immediately apprehended. Police have identified him as an interstate drug trafficker. A criminal case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been initiated.
Further investigation is under way to trace the network and possible links to wider drug trafficking operations.
