SHILLONG, July 3: Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) Chairman R Nainamalai has expressed hope that the induction of new staff will significantly improve the board’s overall functioning and service delivery, and help it address its long-standing issue of manpower shortage.
The Board on Thursday inducted 18 new recruits, including a Law Officer, Scientist B, Assistant Engineer, Data Entry Operator, Lower Divisional Assistant, Technical Assistant and Typist. Among them are highly qualified individuals such as a gold medalist in law, NIT engineers and an IIT physics graduate.
To welcome the new officials, the MSPCB organised a one-day orientation programme at its conference hall, which was attended by the chairman, member secretary and scientific engineers.
Speaking to media persons, Nainamalai highlighted that the recruitment process was conducted transparently, with NIT engaged to conduct the written examination
and results declared on the same day as the personal interviews.
He expressed confidence that the new team would enhance the board’s efficiency and operations.
On the other hand, MSPCB member secretary, Dr. GH Chyrmang, said that tasks that previously took 10 days could now be completed within five days due to the increase in manpower.
He also informed that another round of recruitment is planned for September, subject to the government’s approval of the Board’s service regulations.
According to Chyrmang, the MSPCB plans to establish regional offices in Khliehriat, Byrnihat and Tura to strengthen its field presence.
Meanwhile, Senior Environmental Engineer, WR Kharkrang, noted that environmental challenges have intensified over the past two decades, making it essential to increase manpower.
He said that while funding constraints had previously hindered expansion, the new additions would lead to improved performance in addressing environmental concerns in the state.
