Workshop focuses on vulture conservation; logos unveiled

Guwahati, July 5: Premier biodiversity conservation Aaranyak, in partnership with the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) and with support of Oriental Bird Club (OBC) organised a workshop on implementation of awareness and conservation education initiatives for vulture conservation in Assam” at the Administrative Office
Conference hall of Aaranyak here on Saturday.

Thirty-three college students from Handique Girls’ College, Guwahati College, and Arya
Vidyapeeth College attended the event, according to a Press release.

During the event, two conservation logos – Sagun Mitra and & Nest Guardianship; –
dedicated to vulture conservation were unveiled by Dr Bibhab Kumar Talukdar,
Secretary General and Executive Director of Aaranyak.

Dr Dipankar Lahkar, Assistant Director of Aaranyak, who conceptualised the logos,
provided participants an outline of vulture conservation efforts in India. The logos are
designed by young artist Manjit Gogoi.

Dr Talukdar’s address emphasised the comprehensive approach to conservation in
general, as well as the integration of problems and opportunities related to vulture
conservation.

He interacts with the students about successful communication strategies
while promoting the conservation message to the community.

Mridu Paban Phukon, who is renowned for his pioneering vulture conservation work in
Assam, attended the workshop as an expert and conducted a session with the students
on development of outreach materials for awareness and outreach.

Manisha Sarmah of ASTEC and Jayanta Kumar Pathak, Assistant Director, Environment
Education and Capacity Building Division of Aaranyak also attended the workshop and
interacted with the students.
