TURA, July 7: In a significant milestone for the modernisation of Mokshadham, the foundation stone for an Electric-Hybrid Crematorium was laid in a ceremony at Tura Hindu Samshan Bhumi on Monday. The ceremony, conducted with traditional rituals by Prabin Panthi, president of the Tura Hindu Samshan Bhumi Committee (THSBC), was attended by executive members and community representatives.
The project, valued at approximately Rs 5 crore, is being implemented by the Department of Urban Affairs.
It represents a vital step towards providing cleaner and more efficient cremation facilities in the region. According to the Committee, the crematorium will operate on LPG and electricity, eliminating the need for firewood and significantly reducing emissions, environmental degradation, and health hazards associated with traditional open pyres.
Since its reconstitution, the Committee has initiated several notable reforms. These include the completion of the long-pending Sashan Kali Mandir, commissioning of an eco-friendly crematorium, establishment of a single-window service system for cremation logistics, installation of perimeter lighting and piped water supply, appointment of a nighttime caretaker, and the revival of documentation and land protection efforts at Mokshadham.
The Committee hopes that the project will bring dignity, sustainability, and modern utility to the sacred process of last rites while respecting the cultural ethos of the Hindu community in Tura.
The Committee has expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Urban Affairs department and all stakeholders for their continued support and anticipates the successful and timely execution of the project.
