TURA, July 7: The Non Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA), on Monday, began what is set to be a five-day silent sit-in outside the offices of the GHADC in Tura over their 42 months of unpaid salaries. The protesting employees have demanded the release of at least 12 months of their salaries to call off their protest.
Since the year 2016, salaries of employees of the GHADC have been kept pending. What began as just one month, slowly and steadily passed a year in just 3 years since the fund crunch in the GHADC began. In the current state, employees of the GHADC are owed over 42 months of their salaries — which is the reason for their protest.
Hundreds of employees of the Council sat through the entire day to show their anger at being overlooked for over three-and-a-half years.
While protests have been taking place over the years demanding release of their dues, most have only led to 2-3 months of salaries being released after which the employees would go back to the grind once again. This time, however, the employees want at least a year’s salaries to be provided to them.
“We are due for 42 months of salaries as of date but we understand the situation that the leaders are facing and want only 12 months of our salaries to be cleared as of now for us to call off the protest. We will not call off the protest until they agree to our demands and will continue the same protest indefinitely until they relent. This time we are not taking 3 months’ salary,” stated Brithen Sangma, president of the association.
