Meghalaya swimmers shine at 2nd Thrills Swimming Event

Shillong, July 7: The second edition of the Thrills Swimming Competition 2025 concluded with resounding success at Thrills Fun Park in Mawlein Mawkhan, celebrating a spirited day of aquatic competition and sportsmanship.
The event witnessed a strong turnout with 76 swimmers from across Meghalaya participating in various age groups and race formats.
Organised jointly by the Thrills Society and the Motor Sports Club of Meghalaya (MSCM), the competition featured swimmers in five age brackets — Under 10, Under 14, Under 17, Above 18, and Above 35 years — competing in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, and medley relay categories.
Participants were honoured with trophies, medals, certificates, and gift coupons in a prize distribution ceremony graced by esteemed guests.
In the Under-10 category, Asher Syiem won gold in the boys’ breaststroke, while Ila Emaya Khongji clinched gold in the girls’ category, followed by Alysa B. Kharkhrang with silver and Myra Thakur with bronze.
In the Under-14 category, Meiai P.L. Tron bagged gold in the boys’ freestyle, with Mechwa Siangshai and Travis L. Tariang earning silver and bronze respectively. Among the girls, Verem Nongseij claimed gold, Anisa Phanbuh silver, and Eugenia Sumer bronze.
In the Under-17 freestyle (male) event, Atiar Bakynsai Bareh secured gold, Ezekiel Nongsteng took silver, and Justingwell A. Muktieh finished with bronze. In breaststroke, Elbenz W. Kharbani emerged victorious, followed by Nongsteng and Bareh.
In the Above-18 freestyle (male) division, Elberz Kharbani won gold, with Atiar B. Bareh and William Sangma earning silver and bronze respectively. For the women, Pdiangsuklang Syngwan took home gold, Balasiewdor Wahlang silver, and Shemsngewbha Nongkhlaw bronze. In the breaststroke (male) event, William Sangma won gold, followed by Bareh and Ferdinand Mylliempdah. In the women’s category, Sumarbiang claimed the top spot, with Gail D. Syiem and Nongkhlaw finishing second and third. The butterfly races saw Banpynshngain Syngwan and Pdiangsuklang Syngwan win gold in the men’s and women’s events respectively.
The Above-35 category highlighted the experience and endurance of senior swimmers. Lamshwa Nongrum dominated the men’s events, winning gold in freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly. Jonarius Majaw and Amit Thakur followed in freestyle, while Majaw and Iokio L. Nongbsap took the podium in breaststroke. In the women’s segment, Pynsuklin Khongji secured gold in freestyle, while Pdiangsuklang Syngwan continued her impressive run with another gold in breaststroke, followed by Gail Syiem and Wahlang.
In the medley relay events, Team MPSB clinched gold in the men’s category, while Team Summit and Team Aqua Blessing earned silver and bronze. In the women’s relay, Team Tru North A and Team Tru North B finished first and second respectively.
