Plaint against man for sexual assault of stepdaughter

SHILLONG, July 7: A case of alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl by her stepfather has come to light after she underwent a medical check-up at a primary health centre, following which she was admitted to the Ganesh Das Maternity and Child Hospital here.
The survivor, admitted to the hospital on July 1, is six months’ pregnant, her medical reports state.
The incident came to light on Monday when the girl’s mother revealed that her daughter did not feel safe in reporting the incident due to alleged threats made by her stepfather.
The mother told reporters that she filed a formal complaint with the police.
She said despite repeated inquiries about her well-being, the daughter insisted that she was fine.
Following concerns expressed by their neighbours, the mother took the girl for medical examination at a primary health centre where the pregnancy was detected.
The survivor was discharged from hospital on Monday and is reported to be in a stable condition.
The mother has urged the authorities to take stringent action against the stepfather, who is currently residing at Rangshkhen village near Sohiong.
