TURA, July 16: A grand function to commemorate the 107th Garo Labour Corps Day was held on Wednesday in Tura.
The 16th of July is observed as ‘Garo Labour Corps Day’ every year in Garo Hills in memory of the Garo personnel of the 69th and 84th Garo Labour Companies, who served in France during World War 1.
The day’s memorial service commenced with the ceremonial laying of wreaths by Minister, PHE, Marcuise N. Marak along with other dignitaries and officials at the cenotaph in Lower Babupara. The ceremonial salute was conducted by the District Police, Tura, 2nd MLP Goeragre.
A book titled A’chikrangni France-ona Re’angani (The Garo Labour Corps-World War I) by Seming D, Sangma, Senior Librarian, HTC was also released during the function.
