SHILLONG, July 18: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem, on Friday prohibited the plying of all types of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs), including Night Super buses, along the Demseiniong locality (Macabe Road).
In a statement, Syiem said the order was necessitated as the movement of HMVs, including Night Super buses, from Diengpasoh and entering Shillong via Demseiniong locality (Macabe Road) had caused damage to the road and overhead electrical wires.
He further stated that this has also posed a danger to residential homes in close proximity to the road and has disrupted the flow of vehicular traffic.
Therefore, the SP said that in compliance with the order promulgated by the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner and to prevent any damage and to ensure the safety and security of public property and residents in the area, all types of HMVs, including Night Super buses, are prohibited from plying along the Demseiniong locality.
Meanwhile, Syiem informed that all types of HMVs, including Night Super buses, will be allowed to ply from Diengpasoh only up to the Ishyrwat junction from 9 pm to 6 am the following day. Hence, no HMVs will be allowed to proceed towards Demseiniong.
“Violators will be liable for legal action as per provisions of law,” the SP added.
