NEW DELHI/SHILLONG, July 23: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has denied any move to make a film on the Sohra honeymoon murder case as the “villain” of the act, Sonam Raghuvanshi, completed a month in the Shillong jail on Wednesday without showing any remorse.
Rumours about Khan’s next cinematic project have been making the rounds on several entertainment portals, claiming that he is planning to make a film based on the murder case. But the Sitaare Zameen Par producer-actor trashed such a move.
“There is absolutely no truth to it,” he said.
Sonam, the prime accused in her husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, reportedly did not display any guilt about the crime. Jail officials said she has been following the prison schedule and abiding by the rules.
Adding to her isolation, no family member has visited or contacted her since her arrest. She has not opened up to anyone, neither fellow prisoners nor jail officials, about her personal life or the murder.
Sonam is sharing a jail cell with two other under-trial women inmates. She hasn’t been assigned any specific prison duties yet, but authorities plan to engage her in skill-building activities like sewing in the coming days.
Sonam was arrested from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, a week after Raja’s decomposed body was found in a gorge near the Weisawdong falls on June 2. The two, married on May 11, set out for their honeymoon from home town Indore to Meghalaya on May 20.
They went missing from Sohra three days later.
On Tuesday, Raja’s brother Vipin hired a lawyer in Shillong to oppose the bail granted to the three co-accused in the crime – Silome James, Lokendra Singh Tomar, and his security guard Balbir Ahirwar.
Vipin said on Wednesday that he and his family are satisfied with the investigation carried out by the Meghalaya Police.
He, however, expressed his disappointment that the three co-accused have secured bail instead of being kept in jail.
He also alleged that Sonam’s brother Govind betrayed their family’s trust.
“On the one hand, he condemned his sister’s actions and claimed to stand with us in the pursuit of justice. On the other hand, he secretly came to Shillong and appointed a legal counsel for his sister and Raj Kushwaha,” Vipin said.
He further alleged that Sonam has been in touch with her father and brothers from jail.
