Tel Aviv, July 24: Four major news organizations have warned that journalists in Gaza are facing starvation amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, urging Israel to allow their safe passage and ensure adequate food supplies. These journalists, essential in covering the war, now suffer the same dire conditions as civilians. Meanwhile, US envoy Steve Witkoff is set to meet key Middle East negotiators in Italy to discuss a ceasefire proposal and hostage release. Hamas has submitted a ceasefire offer to Israel, described by an Israeli official as “workable,” though details remain undisclosed.
Since Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack, more than 59,000 Palestinians have died, including many women and children. Gaza’s Health Ministry reported 48 deaths from malnutrition in July alone, totaling 113 since 2023, with most victims being children. The humanitarian crisis has worsened after Israel’s blockade, with agencies warning that 100,000 women and children face famine-level starvation.
The Israeli military reported militants fired a rocket near an aid distribution site in southern Gaza. Indonesia condemned Israel’s symbolic motion to annex the occupied West Bank, calling it illegal and reaffirming support for a two-state solution.
Additionally, eight Israeli soldiers were injured in a car-ramming attack near Netanya, and five Palestinians were killed in recent Israeli military operations in central Gaza. The proposed ceasefire includes a 60-day truce, phased hostage releases, increased aid, and negotiations toward lasting peace. (AP)
