Hit-and-run leaves one dead in Ri-Bhoi

NONGPOH, July 24: A man died after being hit by an unidentified black vehicle along National Highway-6 in Sumer area of Ri-Bhoi district.
According to Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh Rathore, the incident occurred at around 11 pm on Wednesday when the vehicle struck the victim, identified as one Terence Thangkhiew, a resident of 3 Mer, Upper Shillong, East Khasi Hills.
Meanwhile, sources informed that the injured man was initially rushed to the Umsning Community Health Centre (CHC) by passersby before police could arrive at the scene.
Due to the critical nature of his injuries, he was immediately referred to Woodland Hospital in Shillong, where he was later declared dead.
Meanwhile, police from Umiam Police Station have launched an intensive search to identify and locate the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
