Jowai, July 24:As part of Meghalaya’s early preparations for the 39th National Games to be held in the state in 2027, the Meghalaya Boxing Association (MBA), in collaboration with the Jaintia Boxing Association (JBA), held district-level selection trials on Wednesday in both West and East Jaintia Hills.
The trials took place simultaneously at Bishop House in Lumbihsyntu, Mihmyntdu (West Jaintia Hills), and at the East Jaiñtia District Sports Association Indoor Hall in Dkhiah East (East Jaintia Hills). The event witnessed the participation of 36 aspiring pugilists — 21 from West Jaintia and 15 from East Jaintia — competing across multiple weight categories.
These district-level selections are part of a larger, state-wide scouting initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing boxing talent from all 12 districts of Meghalaya. The ultimate goal is to form a strong and competitive boxing contingent to represent the state in the upcoming National Games.
