Manchester, July 24: India’s Rishabh Pant etched his name into cricket’s record books on Wednesday, becoming the first wicketkeeper-batter in the history of Test cricket to score over 1,000 runs in a single away country. The milestone was achieved during Day 1 of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford.
Pant, known for his fearless stroke play and aggressive intent, reached the landmark while scoring an unbeaten 37 off 48 deliveries before being retired hurt after a blow to his foot. His innings featured two boundaries and a six, played at a brisk strike rate of over 77.
With this, Pant’s tally in England now stands at 1,018 runs in Test cricket, scored at an impressive average of 44.26. His run-fest includes four centuries and four half-centuries, with a career-best 146 — all amassed on English soil. This makes him the only wicketkeeper-batter ever to breach the 1,000-run mark in a foreign country in the longest format of the game.
