SHILLONG, July 25: HSPDP chief KP Pangniang has acknowledged discussions within the party to equally share the responsibility of the Cabinet berth between its two MLAs.
Currently, the lone Cabinet berth held by the HSPDP in the MDA 2.0 government is occupied by Shakliar Warjri, who serves as the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs. Meanwhile, the other party MLA, Methodius Dkhar, remains hopeful of also being given the opportunity to serve in the Cabinet.
Confirming the internal discussion for equal representation, Pangniang stated that the party would deliberate further  on the matter before arriving at a final decision, which would be taken in the presence of both MLAs.
The HSPDP Chief expressed confidence that the issue of Cabinet sharing would be resolved through mutual discussion between the two legislators.
“We will see when and how we will take up the discussion,” Pangniang said, adding that the Chief Minister has not yet been approached regarding the matter, as the party must first have an internal discussion on the issue.
With the MDA Government nearing its halfway mark, speculations of a Cabinet reshuffle are gaining momentum—not just within the HSPDP, but also in the BJP, NPP, and UDP—where several MLAs who have not yet been given ministerial responsibilities are hoping for an opportunity.
However, the MDA leadership has so far remained tight-lipped about any political developments, even as many believe that the state may witness a Cabinet reshuffle in September this year.
