SHILLONG, July 25: Uncertainty looms over the second phase of boundary talks between Assam and Meghalaya, as discussions to resolve the remaining areas of dispute may only take place after the Assam Assembly elections next year.
HSPDP chief and member of the West Khasi Hills Regional Committee, KP Pangniang, on Friday stressed on the need to resolve the border dispute between the two states at the earliest.
Referring to the government’s commitment during the first phase of talks, Pangniang said a recent meeting was held in Langpih, during which the Meghalaya Government was urged to prioritise Langpih in the next phase of boundary resolution.
He added that with Assam now gearing up for Assembly elections, there are indications that the Assam government may only resume discussions with Meghalaya on the remaining phases once the elections are over.
