State fully equipped to host National Games: Sports minister

Shillong, July 25: In a major boost to sports in the Northeast, Meghalaya took a decisive step forward in its preparations to host the 39th National Games in 2027.
A high-level meeting held in Shillong on Friday brought together sports ministers, top bureaucrats, and officials from all North Eastern States Olympic Associations, underlining a unified regional approach to the prestigious sporting event.
Shakliar Warjri, Meghalaya’s Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, reiterated the state’s readiness and ambition to make the Games a celebration of sporting excellence and regional collaboration.
“We are fully equipped to host the National Games. Our vision is to ensure the,” Warjri said during the meeting.One of the key proposals discussed was the distribution of sporting disciplines among the NE states.
With over Rs 1,500 crore already invested in developing state-of-the-art sports facilities in every district, Meghalaya is laying down the foundation for what promises to be the biggest sporting event in its history. The Games are expected to feature over 10,000 athletes competing in more than 30 disciplines.
