SHILLONG, July 25: Curtain came down on a five-day training programme and workshop on ‘Experiential Learning and NEP 2020’, which was held between July 21 and 25 at four schools in and around Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi.
According to a statement here, the programme was organised by the the Department of Education, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Tura Campus, under Project Director, Dr. Saru Joshi.
“This initiative forms an integral part of a major research project funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi,” the statement said.
The programmes was organised at Nongpoh Nepali Secondary School, Little Star Secondary School (Kanapara), Christian Secondary School and Presbyterian Secondary School in Nongpoh, with the central objective of promoting the understanding and classroom application of experiential learning in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
During the programme, Assistant Librarian, NEHU Shillong, Dr. Manoj Rana, conducted a session on ‘NEP 2020 and Its Importance’, explaining the transformative potential of the policy for school education and guiding teachers on aligning classroom practices with NEP goals.
On the other hand, Assistant Professor, NERIE, NCERT Shillong, Dr. B. Umesh Kumar Sharma, led an interactive session on ‘Experiential Learning in the Classroom’.
“He shared practical examples from daily life and classroom situations, illustrating how active, hands-on engagement can significantly enhance students’ learning experiences. Live demonstrations and discussions helped participants understand the effectiveness of this method in real-time classroom settings,” the statement said.
The programme also included a workshop for finalising a research tool for the ongoing study on experiential learning, with teachers and stakeholders providing valuable feedback for developing a contextually appropriate instrument.
It may be mentioned that teachers, administrators and education practitioners from the aforesaid schools actively participated in the sessions. “The training served as a platform for reflection, discussion, and collaborative learning on innovative pedagogical practices that support the goals of NEP 2020,” the statement said.
